Renegades put together impressive performances at Coast Conference Championships
Coast Conference Championships Day 1
1. Fabian Taplin: 500 Free- The Renegades opened up Champs with an explosive swim from their sophomore powerhouse, Fabian Taplin. Fabian crushed the 500 freestyle, finishing first overall in the preliminary swim notching a time of 4:53.14, the fifth fastest time in Ohlone Swimming history! Another incredible swim from the dominant distance swimmer to kick off a long three day meet.
2. Womens 400 Medley Relay- Ohlone Womens team had an electric relay swim in the 400 Medley Relay to finish off Day 1 of 3 at Chabot College. Teagan Rees, Nitya Sharma, Michelle Valdez and Ananya Chittbabu swam a time of 5:47.92, dropping over 15 seconds from their entered time and finishing in the Top 10 at Conference. Great swim from all of the Womens Renegades!
3. Mens 200 Free Relay- The Renegades had another great relay swim in the 200 Freestyle Relay, this one from the Men. Moataz Bayoumi, Fabian Taplin, Arjan Behrooz, and Christopher James swam a 1:32.21, finishing fourth overall in all of Coast Conference, and dropping over two seconds from their previous fastest time this season. Great work by the boys to score some big points on Day 1 of Conference Championships.
Coast Conference Championships Day 2
1. Moataz Bayoumi. 100 Fly- The freshman butterflyer made his presence known in the Coast Conference by finishing the prelim for 100 Fly with a top time of 53.70. He followed it up later that day by finishing with a Championship Final time of 53.10, capturing Ohlone's first gold medal at Conference in two years! Moataz moved into third on Ohlone's record board for the Men's 100 Fly with that explosive swim, outtouching the second place finisher by 0.06 seconds. Incredible swim from the freshman!
2. Teagan Rees: 400 IM- Freshman Teagan Rees has established one of the great seasons in Ohlone Women's Swimming history. This continued in her Championship Final swim of the 400 IM. Teagan finished with a time of 5:32.71, dropping over six seconds from her previous swim. She also finished fourth overall in the Coast Conference, the highest placing for an Ohlone Women's swimmer at Champs. One of the many great swims from Teagan this season.
3. Mens 800 Free Relay- The Ohlone Mens relay had an impressive team swim in the highly competitive 800 Free Relay to close out Day 2 of Champs. Sophomore Fabian Taplin led off the relay with a 1:48.20 opening 200 Free, the second fastest official time in all of the Coast Conference. Moataz Bayoumi, Christopher James, and Arjan Behrooz all swam a season-best split and the Renegades finished the 800 Relay with a time of 7:38.89, finishing fourth overall in League.
Coast Conference Championships Day 3
1. Fabian Taplin: 200 Fly- After finishing 2nd place in the 200 Fly in 2023, Fabian Taplin came back for more in what would be his final individual swim as an Ohlone Renegade. Taplin was second, trailing by 3.2 seconds at the halfway point, but rallied in incredible fashion to finish with a time of 2:03.89, stealing first place by just 0.08 seconds. After two second place finishes on the first two days of Champs, Fabian Taplin finished out both the weekend and his career at Ohlone as a League Champion in the 200 Fly.
2. Michelle Valdez & Nitya Sharma: 200 Fly- Double the history was made for Ohlone in the Women's 200 Fly at Day 3 of Coast Conference Championships. Michelle Valdez and Nitya Sharma both landed themselves on the record both, finishing with times of 3:10.67 and 3:31.25 respectively. A couple of very impressive swims from the Women's Renegades in a daunting 200 Butterfly event.
3. Kato Tien: 100 Free- The freshman Kato Tien has dropped time in the 50 and 100 Free every meet this season. He continued the trend in a big way to end the season with a great swim in the 100 Freestyle. Kato qualified for Coast Conference Finals with a time of 55.52 and dropped even more time in the final, swimming 55.36. Both times crush his entry time of 57.65. Great time improvement from the freshman not just at Champs, but all season long!
