Renegades Top Folsom Lake in Thriller to Clinch NorCal Super Regional Series

FREMONT, CA – In a high-stakes showdown at "The OC," the Ohlone College Renegades secured an 8-7 victory over Folsom Lake College on Saturday, winning the deciding game of their Best-of-3 series. With the win, the Renegades (38-7) advance to the NorCal Regional Finals.
The game was a see-saw battle that saw Ohlone jump out to an early lead, only to have Folsom Lake roar back late. The Renegades established control in the first inning when Cam Hegamin and Derek Bain delivered back-to-back RBI hits. By the end of the sixth, Ohlone held what appeared to be a comfortable 7-1 lead, fueled by disciplined hitting and opportunistic baserunning from Caden Cuccia and Teo Thompson.
However, Folsom Lake refused to go quietly. After chipping away with three runs in the seventh, Asa Martinez delivered a dramatic, game-tying three-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to knot the score at 7-7.
The Renegades showed their championship mettle in the bottom of the eighth. After Chuy Vasquez reached base on a walk, Jordan Medina safely bunts over Vasquez, but on a throwing error by the Falcons pitcher, runners were now on the corners. With the game on the line, Cam Hegamin executed a daring squeeze play, bunting back to the mound. Pitcher Andrew Balentine slipped while attempting to field it, allowing Chuy Vasquez to slide home with the go-ahead run. Reliever Bryce Monte then took the mound in the ninth, slamming the door on the Falcons to secure the win and spark a celebration in Fremont.

The Renegades now turn their attention to the NorCal Regional Finals, where they will host the #11 seed Santa Rosa Junior College Bear Cubs. The Best-of-3 series will take place at Ohlone College from Friday, May 15th through Sunday, May 17th.
