DOWN TO THE WIRE! RENEGADES EDGED OUT IN GAME 2 THRILLER, SETTING UP DO-OR-DIE GAME 3 TODAY!
FREMONT, CA – Baseball fans, buckle up! The Ohlone College Renegades and the Santa Rosa Bear Cubs delivered an absolute classic on Saturday afternoon, trading blows in a nail-biting 5-4 showdown that forces a decisive, winner-take-all Game 3!
The Renegades came out of the gates absolutely on fire in the top of the first. Following an RBI sacrifice fly from Jordan Medina, catcher Derek Bain brought the dugout to its feet with a massive two-run blast, giving Ohlone an immediate 3-0 lead.
But Santa Rosa proved they wouldn't go down without a fight. The Bear Cubs slowly chipped away at the deficit, getting a solo home run from Cooper Wood in the third and utilizing clutch hitting from Caze Derammelaere to seize a 4-3 lead in the fourth.
Showing the grit that has defined their season, Ohlone clawed right back in the top of the fifth. Medina delivered again, grounding out to score Teo Thompson and tying the game at 4-4. The tension was palpable until the bottom of the seventh, when Santa Rosa's Clay De Mars launched what would become the game-winning solo home run. Santa Rosa's relief pitcher, Myles Standish, managed to shut the door, striking out seven across eight grueling innings of work to secure the 5-4 victory.
Despite the heartbreaking loss, the Renegades racked up an impressive 10 hits, with Chuy Vasquez, Jordan Medina, and Cam Hegamin all recording multi-hit performances.
